How to Clean Leather School Shoes

With the new school term fast approaching, it’s time to look at new shoes for your ever-growing children.

Good school shoes are not cheap, so it’s worth keeping them in tip top condition for as long as possible.

One way of increasing your kids’ shoes lifespan is regular cleaning and keeping the leather in the best possible condition.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on the best way to clean your children’s school shoes…

  1. First remove any excess dried-on mud with a soft-bristled brush. Then use a damp cloth to get rid of the rest.
  2. If the shoes use Velcro or other hook and loop closure systems, you can clean the accumulated fluff, hair and dried grass by using a fork to gently tease it out without damaging the Velcro. This will help the Velcro stay closed when the shoes are being worn.
  3. Leave to air dry – don’t rush the drying process, as leaving them next to radiators or a fire will quickly dry out the leather and could lead to cracked leather.
  4. When your leather school shoes are dry, use leather cleaner to really bring them back to life. Use a small amount of leather cleaner on a clean cloth and rub in in small circles paying special attention to worn or scuffed areas of the shoe.
  5. Then, wipe away the excess and allow to air dry again.
  6. You can now use polish, cream or spray to help protect the shoes from damage during the school day.

We hope that helps you extend the life of your children’s shoes!
